While peanuts have plenty of nutritional benefits, parrot-owners want to be aware of aflatoxins, a mold that can grow on peanuts if not properly stored. Aflatoxin can cause liver damage in both birds and humans if ingested. If your parrot consumes peanuts with aflatoxins, it can be toxic or even fatal to your pet. 18 янв. 2022 г.
Are raw peanuts safe for birds?
Even though you might think peanuts are unhealthy, they're actually really great for birds. Peanuts, as we know from many quiz shows, are not actually nuts. Peanuts are in fact legumes (in the same vein as peas, soybeans and lentils). What makes these so appealing for birds is that they're highly nutritious.
Is it OK for my bird to eat peanut shells?
No, you should never feed your parrot the peanut shell. Though some nut casings are fine for your parrots to nibble on, peanut shells are not one of them. It is the shell of the peanut that contains the most Aflatoxin so it needs to be completely removed before the peanut is fed to your parrot.
