Newborn puppies are the favorite host of fleas. Therefore, they are more prone to experience adverse reactions caused by most anti-flea treatment for puppies. Getting rid of newborn puppy fleas is quite tricky because these insects are tough to get rid of as they're persistent, the same as cockroaches.

Can puppies be born with worms?

Symptoms for intestinal worms are more obvious in puppies: They might vomit or have diarrhea, and may also have a pot-bellied appearance and a dull coat. However, almost all puppies are born with roundworms, so even those that appear healthy will usually have some worms inside them.

Can puppies get worms from fleas?

If your dog is suffering from a flea infestation, they are also at risk of picking up an intestinal worm. Fleas are common transmitters of tapeworms, and if your dog swallows infected fleas when grooming, they could develop tapeworms.

When should you flea and worm a puppy?

Your vet will help advise you on when to start flea protection, but for most puppies the first treatment can occur once they are six to eight weeks old. The exact age will depend on the type of flea treatment chosen and the weight of your puppy.
