Most people do not realize just how fast and agile sighthounds are, or how strong their instincts are to chase and seize other creatures that run. A Saluki can seriously injure or kill your neighbor's cat or toy dog. You must take great care to supervise and control your sighthound around smaller animals.
Can Salukis be aggressive?
Generally quiet but alert, he's a good watchdog, but not a guard dog. Salukis are fearless in the hunt but otherwise unaggressive.
Are Salukis good family dogs?
The saluki is decidedly a one-family dog, tending to be aloof, or even shy, with strangers. This is a devoted, but not particularly demonstrative, breed that will relish sitting by your side, not on your lap. Salukis are quiet at home, extremely gentle with children, and good with other dogs.
Do Salukis like to cuddle?
They will sleep on your bed and sofa and they love to cuddle up to you. Salukis can be picky eaters, but also greedy so make sure that you don't leave anything on the kitchen worktops.
Do Salukis get along with cats?
Sensitive to discipline, Salukis may not come when called, but training with positive reinforcement can help. Don't bring a Saluki into the house if you have other small animals — the Saluki may view them as prey. That being said, Salukis can live with cats if properly socialized.
