This highly active breed is best suited for active families who have the time to exercise their Saluki. They do not do well in apartments and will thrive in a home with a large, fenced-in yard. Salukis are good with older children and other dogs – though they prefer other Salukis to different breeds.
Do Saluki dogs make good pets?
Salukis are quiet at home, extremely gentle with children, and good with other dogs. They make adequate watchdogs, but miserable protection dogs. Salukis must get a chance to run, and run hard, every day. Given this chance, they are moderately obedient, as long as they happen to want the same thing you want.
Can Salukis be left alone?
Salukis should not live outdoors. They thrive on human companionship and will become depressed if left alone for long periods. Although these dogs can make gentle and calm companions for older children, they are not recommended for homes with small children.
Are Salukis noisy?
One of the swiftest and most graceful of all breeds, the aristocratic Saluki is possessed of a quiet dignity and independence. Once past the destructive puppy stage, a Saluki is docile and quiet indoors, a creature of comfort who prefers soft beds and sofas on which he can lounge and survey his domain.
Are Salukis hard to train?
They are not always easy to train and require a lot of patience and understanding. They may not compete in obedience competitions very often but they can make a great family companion with proper training. The Saluki, is an ancient sight hound breed, they are primarily used in hunting fast game animals.
