When Whippets are not socialized properly they can become timid and stressed by changes in their environment. A properly socialized Whippet is a polite and undemanding dog who's wonderful with strangers and other dogs alike.

Whippets are mildly stubborn, but also very sensitive. They respond favorably only to calm, upbeat training methods that emphasize praise and food. Most sighthounds tend to be touch-sensitive, tending to startle a bit when touched unexpectedly or grabbed for a hug.
Are Whippets nervous dogs?
They can be a bit nervous without this socialisation which is why it's so important. Like most dogs, Whippets dislike being left alone and can suffer with separation anxiety. They form strong bonds with their owners and can get very stressed when left alone for any length of time.
How do Whippets show affection?
Whippets are extremely affectionate and playful. According to the American Whippet Club, the Whippet's “natural attachment to people makes them happiest when kept as house pets.” Whippets are the type of breed that will lick strangers in the park because of their love for affection.
Are Whippets aloof?
The Whippet is independent, often aloof and never lost his prey drive. Should anything small, moving and furry catch his eye – he's off. Leaving you to enjoy a long romantic walk on the beach… with yourself. They are racing masters, after all.
