How long until a puppy needs less attention?

Usually, you'll bring a puppy home when they're at least eight weeks old. By that age, puppies are already eating solid food and are eager to explore. But they're still young and will spend around 15 hours sleeping. So, they're not going to need that much attention from you.

How long is a puppy's attention span?

Young puppies have short attention spans but you can expect them to begin to learn simple obedience commands such as “sit,” “down,” and “stay,” as young as 7 to 8 weeks of age. Formal dog training has traditionally been delayed until 6 months of age. Actually, this juvenile stage is a very poor time to start.
