Can a Border Terrier be left alone?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

Border Terriers are known for developing separation anxiety if they are left alone because they form such strong bonds with their owners. It's better if there is someone with your dog all day and they are not left on their own. A worried and lonely Border Terrier can be very destructive around the house.

Do Border Terriers run away?

By practicing obedience commands and setting boundaries you help establish yourself as the dominant pack member, making your Border Terrier less likely to run away from you, and more likely to follow you or stay nearby. This is how your dog is wired--to stay with the pack leader.

Are Border Terriers clingy?

They are independent-minded and very 'terrier-like', so they are not the most obedient of breeds. What they lack in obedience, though, they more than make up for in personality and companionship. They love the company of people, but they're independent enough not to be under your feet all day, and they're not clingy.

Do Border Terriers bark a lot?

Border Terriers aren't yappy, but they'll bark to alert you of anything unusual, and they can become nuisance barkers if they get bored. Border Terriers have a high prey drive and will chase, attack, and even kill neighborhood cats, squirrels or other small animals.
