Can whipworm be passed from dog to dog?

The whipworm (Trichuris vulpis) parasite is generally transmitted to dogs when they ingest infested matter, although whipworms can be contracted from other infected animals as well.

Can dogs pass whipworms to other dogs?

Unlike some other common intestinal parasites in dogs, whipworms cannot be transmitted via other species/hosts or between mother and offspring before birth or during nursing. Infection does not require direct contact with another dog.

Can dogs get parasites from puppies?

Parasites are usually transmitted when an animal inadvertently ingests parasite eggs or spores in contaminated soil, water, feces or food. In the case of tapeworms, they can also be transmitted when a dog eats an infected flea. Puppies, on the other hand, usually get intestinal parasites from their mother.
