Can dogs reinfect themselves with tapeworms?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

If your dog lives in a flea-infested environment, reinfection with tapeworms may occur in as little as two weeks. Since tapeworm medication is so effective, recurrent tapeworm infections are almost always due to reinfection from fleas and not failure of the deworming product.

Can tapeworms come back after treatment in dogs?

Adult tapeworms usually measure anywhere from four to 28 inches in length. As the tapeworm matures inside the dog's gut, these segments break off and end up in the dog's stool. Since these segments contain tapeworm eggs, the cycle will begin again, with a new host and most likely a new recipient.

Why do my dogs keep getting tapeworms?

Dogs get tapeworms when they ingest fleas that are infected with the tapeworm larvae. This can happen during grooming if they lick their fur and accidentally eat an infected flea.

How long does it take to get rid of tapeworms in dogs?

For the dog to be totally rid of the tapeworms and all eggs, it normally takes 10-14 days.

Can tapeworm eggs live in carpet?

The tapeworm eggs can live in the environment in grass and soil, carpets and dust, so it is hard to eliminate the process of infection as we cannot keep this permanently clean.
