What flea treatment is safe for lactating dogs?
You can use Capstar, a once-a-day pill that starts to kill fleas in 30 minutes and is safe to use on nursing mothers. Frontline spot on treatment and Frontline spray are also safe to use on nursing mothers. According to the manufacturer, Frontline Spray is safe for use on pups as young as 2 days old.
Can you flea a breastfeeding dog?
First and foremost, treat the mother dog with a top flea treatment like Advantage or Frontline. If your dog is still nursing, use a special treatment for nursing dogs, like Revolution. Older puppies - eight weeks or older - can also be treated with a flea product like normal.
Can I use advantage on nursing dog?
Bayer Advantage can be used on puppies as young as 7 weeks old. Also, it is safe for dogs that are pregnant or nursing. Advantage is water-resistant, so it kills fleas even after shampooing and exposure to rain.
