This happens when pork tapeworm eggs from poop get into someone's mouth. (It doesn't happen from eating contaminated pork.) They hatch into larvae, then go through the intestinal wall and enter the bloodstream.


Do tapeworms live in bloodstream?

It burrows into the person's bloodstream and gets swept through the body. Often those parasites end up in the brain, where they form cysts. The tapeworm larvae often get stuck in ventricles, or fluid-filled cavities, in the brain, sprouting grapelike extensions.

Can tapeworms be detected in blood?

Blood test. For tissue-invasive infections, your doctor may also test your blood for antibodies your body may have produced to fight tapeworm infection. The presence of these antibodies indicates tapeworm infestation.

Can tapeworms grow inside you?

If you ingest certain tapeworm eggs, they can migrate outside your intestines and form larval cysts in body tissues and organs (invasive infection). If you ingest tapeworm larvae, however, they develop into adult tapeworms in your intestines (intestinal infection).

Can worms enter bloodstream?
