Can you eat dead cows?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

In the US, no slaughterhouse or butcher will accept a dead animal with the possible exception of a hunted deer (although that is getting harder to find lately). Any cow, hog, goat, lamb, or other livestock must come to the slaughterhouse live and in sufficiently good health that it is able to walk in on its own. 24 мар. 2016 г.

Why is it not good to eat dead animals?

When the weather is warm, roadkill flesh becomes a potential hotbed of microbes that could lead to illness. In fact, after an animal has been dead for some time you can see bloating because of all the microbes breeding and producing gasses in its gut, Meier said.

Can you eat an animal after it dies?

Yes, that's true. Dead animals no longer have any circulation maintaining tissue material like muscles and organs and pathogens may increase without internal regulation and would consequently be very toxic. Typically the meat gets rancid if not refrigerated right after death.

What happens to a dead cow?

The carcass is degraded to a useful farm product (soil amendment) without the production of objectionable odors or the attraction of flies and scavenging birds or animals. Composting has been used widely for disposal of poultry and swine carcasses and more recently for successful disposal of cattle carcasses.

Can you eat a sick animal?

Meat from animals suffering from these conditions is routinely removed from the food chain (and can look extremely unappetising), but Public Health England says there is no epidemiological evidence that eating it can result in transmission of the diseases to humans.
