Was this answer helpful? It is ok for you to use approved flea treatments on a nursing mother, such as Frontline Plus and Revolution. Revolution cannot be used on puppies younger than 6 weeks of age.


Can I give my nursing dog flea treatment?

First and foremost, treat the mother dog with a top flea treatment like Advantage or Frontline. If your dog is still nursing, use a special treatment for nursing dogs, like Revolution. Older puppies - eight weeks or older - can also be treated with a flea product like normal.

Can I worm my dog while she's nursing?

The majority of veterinarian-approved dewormers, or wormers, are safe to use on a nursing mama dog. Deworming her and her babies is the right thing to do, especially if she hasn't been getting or has missed monthly parasite prevention doses.

Can you give a nursing dog a flea bath?

You cannot use flea and tick shampoo on a pregnant or nursing dog. It will hurt her and her puppies. Instead we recommend good old fashioned Dawn Dishwashing Soap. Dawn Dish Soap kills fleas by drowning them.

What Wormer is safe for lactating dogs?

Fenbendazole is very safe. Doses up to 100 times the recommended dose of 20 mg per pound are tolerated without serious side effects. It is also safe for use with pregnant and lactating dogs as well.
