Different types of dogs require different types of brushes. For example, it doesn't make sense to use the same type of brush on a Poodle that you would use on a German Shepherd. Their hair is simply different. When you use the right type of brush, your pet will most likely enjoy being groomed.
Can I use a regular hairbrush on my dog?
Grooming gloves are great for dogs that don't like grooming. Often, the dog will simply think that you're petting them, not actually doing any grooming. You can also use a natural-brush bristle or soft slicker brush. Both of these work nicely to remove loose hair and dirt.
Can I use any brush on my dog?
The best dog brush for short hair is any brush that stimulates the coat and skin and can also deal with any moulting hairs. A soft or rubbery brush is what I like to use as they massage the skin, make the coat look healthy and remove debris and loose hairs.
How do I know what brush to use on my dog?
The size, spacing, length and stiffness of bristles determine what dog it is suitable for. Short bristles that are near together are ideal for short-haired dogs, longer bristles are better for longer hair. If your pooch has a wiry coat you'll need to look for a stiffer bristles.
Do dog brushes hurt dogs?
A brush will not hurt your dog, literally, but an improper way of using the slicker brush will. Brushing through a dense, curly long coat of hair will put pressure on the hair shaft. Thus there is a tendency of breakage when too much force is exerted.
