Do dog groomers use sedatives? Generally, the grooming professionals do not accept dogs that have been sedated for any reason. Sedatives play a major role in relaxing the dogs but many times these drugs are misused. A lot of attention is required to go this route.

General Anesthesia: For critical cases, the dog may require to be put under general anesthesia for the grooming. Of course, this is done at the vet's office. This is frequently done in cases of overly troublesome dogs or when there may be pain or the need for the dog to remain still for extended periods of time.

Do groomers give dogs something to calm them down?

They'll infuse the space with calming pheromones in the air or essential oils through a diffuser. Perhaps they'll use certain shampoos with soothing ingredients, like lavender. If and when a vet writes a prescription of sedatives for a dog's grooming session, then the groomer can use those to keep a dog still.
