Dog's that have been spayed/castrated tend to have lower energy requirements than intact dogs. This - unsurprisingly - means that these dogs don't need to consume as many calories as dogs who haven't had this surgery. In short, spayed/castrated dogs don't need to eat as much food. 24 апр. 2017 г.
Do intact dogs need more food?
Answer: It is a “nutritional milestone” at the time a pet is spayed or neutered. The amount and/or type of food must be changed to assure the pet stays at a healthy weight and body condition. If neutered pets are fed the same as intact pets, they will gain weight.
Do unneutered dogs eat more?
In general, intact dogs can eat more food than spayed or neutered dogs. Research has shown that a dog's metabolism slows down within 24 hours of being spayed or neutered (those hormones again). And obviously exercise makes a difference too. Just like us, dogs that get lots of exercise can eat more.
Do neutered dogs eat less?
Many people believe that neutering makes dogs fat. This is not the case, but neutered dogs do need fewer calories so, after your dog is neutered, reduce the food given by about a quarter until you see what effect neutering has had. If your dog begins to lose weight, you can gradually increase the food again.
Are unneutered dogs skinnier?
No. If they gain weight after the neuter, they will weigh more, but not in a good way. Watch the dog's diet to prevent this.
