The Miniature Schnauzer is not a “wash and wear” dog. They do require regular grooming every 4-6 weeks. This breed does require frequent brushing and combing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, as well as clipping or hand stripping.

What happens if you don't Clip a Schnauzer?

*if you do not cut a schnauzers coat.....well if you like it fine....... erm...... being a wire coat the hair does not just fall out it is supposed to be pulled to allow the new coat to come through and by leaving old hair desperately needing to come out can make the skin itchy.

Do you have to clip a Miniature Schnauzer?

Because of their double coats and inability to shed properly, Miniature Schnauzers require fairly constant grooming. They need their coats clipped or hand stripped, the latter of which can be a very time-consuming process that is usually reserved for show dogs.

Do I have to cut my schnauzers hair?

For standard and giant schnauzers, you may want to get them trimmed at least once a month. Bedsides brushing, how often does a mini Schnauzer have to see a groomer? Once every 2-4 weeks is best. Long-haired dogs require quite a lot of grooming.

Should Miniature Schnauzer be stripped or clipped?

Re: Hand stripping or clipped? Hand stripping is usually preferred for wire coated breeds such as the schnauzer as it retains the harsh topcoat of the dog and (especially with the pepper & salt colour schnauzers) the banded hairs which give them their distinctive look.
