If the cat lives in a flea-infested environment, tapeworm infection can become re-established within a few weeks. This is very rarely due to treatment failure; in most cases, reappearance of tapeworm segments represents a re-infection of the cat.


Can tapeworms fall out?

A tapeworm can grow from 4 to 8 inches long. Chances are you won't see the adult worm. As it grows, though, some of its segments fall off and pass through your dog's poop.

Why are tapeworms coming out of my cat?

Tapeworms are a common intestinal parasite in cats that they get from eating either infected fleas or infected small animals. The worms are divided into segments that break off and look similar to grains of rice moving around in the cat's poop.

Do tapeworms come out after deworming cat?

Your cat might still have worms after deworming as dewormers take 2-4 days to take effect, or sometimes a second dose is also needed. The worms will usually be gone in 2 to 3 weeks after you give your cat a dewormer. It may need a second deworming a few weeks later to get rid of all the worms.
