Your vet will give your dog medicine by mouth or in a shot to kill the worms. Many of these drugs are described as “broad-spectrum,” because they're good for treating a wide range of parasites, including worms that live in the gut. They're poisonous to pests, but safe for pets. 23 окт. 2020 г.

Pyrantel pamoate (brand names Nemex®, Nemex 2®) is an anthelmintic (dewormer). It is used to treat intestinal roundworm, hookworm, and stomach worm parasites in many species including dogs, cats, small mammals, and birds.

Do you have to get dewormer from a vet?

The over-the-counter wormers purchased through pet supply retailers typically treat roundworms, which are found in most puppies but are usually not effective on the range of other parasites that older dogs can have. For those, you'll most likely need medication from your veterinarian.

Do dogs really need deworming?

Currently, we recommend monthly deworming for all dogs in the summer months. If we have milder winters or if you have very young children, we may recommend deworming monthly all year round. There are several other types of parasitic worms as well (hookworms, whipworms). This is where the fecal test can be useful.
