The Whippet is generally considered to be among the healthier breeds of purebred dog, with very few health problems that require frequent maintenance or lifelong medication. Given proper nutrition, exercise and veterinary care, most Whippets will live for 12 to 15 years.

Since Whippets are speed merchants with slight frames, they can injure bones, joints and muscles when they're running at full pace. It's not uncommon at all for some Whippets to experience: Fractures (especially to toes)
