The Kennel Club has announced that it will no longer accept registration applications for merle-coloured dogs in breeds where there is no documented evidence of the colour having been well established over a sustained period.
Can you breed a white dog with a merle?
If you plan to breed a dog with the merle gene, you should not breed it with another of similar genetic makeup. If lucky, the dog will be colorful and healthy, but there is a substantial chance that the double merle gene offspring could be blind, deaf or both. In other words, don't do it.
Is merle a recognized French Bulldog color?
The Merle coat coloration is not found in purebred French Bulldogs and it is important to know this is not a recognized French Bulldog color variation. The color pattern has been introduced in most cases by crossing with merle Chihuahuas.
Can you ABKC register a merle?
Merle is a fad. It will pass, just like the many other fads that have crept up in the American Bully breed only to disappear later on. It is not an accepted color in the breed according to the American Bully Kennel Club's (ABKC) breed Standard.
