Does my greyhound need a coat at night?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

You might need to put a warm coat or jacket on the dogs, especially in the evenings and overnight. Make sure that coats are regularly inspected for damage, and are not tied on so tight that they are uncomfortable when the greyhound curls up, nor so loose that the dogs are constantly getting tangled in them.

At what temperature does my greyhound need a coat?

In winter, when the temperature dips below 32 degrees F, and your dog is going to be out for a walk, he should wear a coat. A coat will keep his body temperature from falling. A snood or hood will protect your dog's ears from becoming frostbitten.

When should I put a jacket on my greyhound?

Hot/cold conditions Greyhounds have very little body fat and, therefore, are prone to cold stress. If your greyhound curls up in a tight ball, you know that they are feeling the cold. If the temperature is below 15°C, a dog coat is essential.

Do greyhounds really need coats?

Which dogs need winter coats? Dogs with fine or thin fur (e.g. Greyhounds and Whippets) and dogs that are very young, underweight, old or unwell need a warm dog coat when they go out, as they feel the cold much faster than other dogs. They should go out in the cold for shorter periods too.

Does my greyhound need Pyjamas?

Greyhounds have so little body fat that they can't keep warm. The rule is: “If you need a jacket, so does he.” In a cold house, they start to shiver — so they need to wear pyjamas.
