【Expert answer】
Any Q

On average, senior dog foods have less protein, less fats, and higher carbohydrates than adult and puppy diets. This may or may not be a good thing for your pet. Typically, higher carbohydrates and less fat isn't a good thing and may be an indication of a cheaper dog food that uses more fillers.

Why should senior dogs eat senior food?

Some senior dogs also have trouble with constipation, so a higher-fiber diet will help them stay regular. Many senior diets have higher-quality protein sources than standard foods. This helps to maintain body weight and muscle mass without putting too much strain on the kidneys.

Can senior dogs eat regular dog food?

Many older dogs can continue to eat a good quality commercial diet designed for adults and do not need to be changed to a different diet.”

When should you switch to mature dog food?

But once your pup is six to 12 months old those needs change. That's usually when your puppy is nearing his adult height and can transition to adult food. Spaying or neutering usually occurs at this age as well, lowering your dog's need for increased energy; hence a reason to switch from puppy to adult dog food.
