The wide range in styles is reflected in the range of acceptable heights: 23 to 28 inches for males, although most salukis today are nearer the top of the range. Weight can range from about 35 pounds for a small female up to 65 pounds for a large male (16 to 30 kilograms).


How big is a full grown Saluki?

The normal size range for the modern breed is 58–71 centimetres (23–28 in) high at the withers and 16–32 kilograms (35–70 lb) in weight. Female Salukis are slightly smaller than males. The head is long and narrow with large eyes and drop ears. The tail of the breed is long and curved.

Is a Saluki a medium or large dog?

Bred to share the family home, Salukis are an extremely gentle breed. A medium sized, moderate dog built for extreme speed and endurance. There are smooth coated and feathered varieties, the latter with silky fringes mainly on the ears and tail.

Can Salukis be aggressive?

Generally quiet but alert, he's a good watchdog, but not a guard dog. Salukis are fearless in the hunt but otherwise unaggressive.
