Cockroaches and earthworms may also carry roundworm larvae, which can be transmitted to the dog if they are ingested.

Tapeworms. Tapeworms are an intestinal parasite that dogs acquire by eating infected fleas or by consuming wild animals infested with tapeworms or fleas. Once the dog eats the flea, the tapeworm egg hatches and attaches to the dog's intestinal lining.

Toxocariasis is found worldwide, although the majority of cases occur where dogs and cats are kept in close proximity to humans (usually household pets). Most cases are reported from the Southeastern United States, Mexico, Hawaii, East and Western Europe, Australia, the Philippines, and South Africa.
How do you treat Toxocara canis?
Visceral toxocariasis can be treated with antiparasitic drugs such as albendazole or mebendazole. Treatment of ocular toxocariasis is more difficult and usually consists of measures to prevent progressive damage to the eye.
