Write to your legislators. Let them know, in a polite, civil way, that you do not support any form of BSL. Join a local anti-BSL dog group, or create one. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper voicing your opinion on breed bans or biased dog-attack articles in a rational and courteous manner.
What does no BSL mean?
Breed-specific legislation (BSL) targets specific breeds of dogs that are wrongly thought to all be dangerous – most frequently "pit bull types" – and places stricter regulations on these dogs or even makes ownership of them illegal.
What is BSL?
What is British Sign Language (BSL)? Sign language is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expression and body language. It is used mainly by people who are Deaf or to support those who have a hearing loss. In the UK, the most common sign language used is British Sign Language (BSL).
What happens when a dog is banned?
Dogs suspected to be a banned type are taken away from their owner and held in kennels. Many dogs find the process very difficult to cope with and can result in undesirable changes in health and behaviour. Dogs will then be examined by an expert using a set of standards which are mainly based on appearance.
Does BSL end?
Every year thousands of dogs are euthanised because of the way they look thanks to section one of the Dangerous Dogs Act. On the 12 August 2021, the legislation that makes this possible will have been in force for 30 years.
