As your dog is barking ask it to 'shush' or 'quiet', then put a super smelly treat right in front of the dog's nose. Most dogs will stop barking to sniff the treat – dogs cannot inhale and bark at the same time. When the dog is quiet, you can praise him and give him the treat.
Why does my Greyhound bark so much?
Greyhounds, like other dogs, will often bark when kennelled or in yards. They may be barking at other dogs, people walking past, seeking attention or alerting you to a threat. This is normal barking behaviour and is the way greyhounds communicate with each other and with people.
How do you calm a greyhound?
The most important tip of all: Don't use punishment with an anxious dog! Pain and fear will only reinforce the anxiety a dog feels. It's almost always beneficial to help build your Greyhound's confidence. Daily walks offer your dog an excellent opportunity to experience new sights, smells, sounds, animals, and people.
How do you discipline a dog that won't stop barking?
Tell your dog "Quiet" and then punish every single bark after the warning signal. This will teach your pet to be quiet before getting punished. You must also reward quiet times for it to work properly. Note: never physically punish your pet.
