When it comes to grooming and coat care, Salukis are a very low maintenance. They don't shed very much and tend not to have a strong 'dog smell' either. To remove dead fur and keep their coat in tip-top condition, you'll only need to brush your Saluki on a weekly basis. Salukis only need bathing when they’re dirty (or if they’ve rolled through something smelly!) Salukis are strong candidates for dental health issues, so be sure to take especially good care of their teeth. Complete their grooming routine with regular tooth brushing, nail clips and ear checks. The Basics of Saluki Grooming The Saluki comes in two coat types: smooth and feathered. Brush the smooth coat weekly, but if you have the feathered variety, comb the feathering on the ears, tail, legs and feet at least a couple of times a week to prevent or remove mats and tangles, and bathe him as needed.Brush their teeth multiple times a week or daily as recommended by vets. Nails should be trimmed every 3-4 weeks but Salukis may file these themselves when running, so aim to do this every 8 weeks.They are not always easy to train and require a lot of patience and understanding. They may not compete in obedience competitions very often but they can make a great family companion with proper training. The Saluki, is an ancient sight hound breed, they are primarily used in hunting fast game animals.Protein: Dogs are primarily meat-eaters, which is why your Saluki will need a healthy amount of protein served to them in every meal. Look for dog food mixes with high protein content and fewer carbs. Chicken, beef, lamb, and fish are excellent sources of protein.


Do Salukis make good pets?

Salukis can make excellent companions for older children, but they aren't recommended for homes with young children. They're tolerant, but young Salukis can be too active for children younger than 8 years of age, and their thin skin and knobby bones make them vulnerable to injury if children aren't careful.
