How are roundworms classified?
Worms with round, non-segmented bodies are known as nematodes or roundworms (Figure below). They are classified in the phylum Nematoda, which has over 28,000 known species. Some scientists believe there could be over a million species of Nematodes.
What are the characteristics of roundworms?
Roundworms are characterized by a simple worm-like structure with a lack of features such as cilia or a well-defined head. They have an internal body cavity, called a pseudocoelom, which looks like a tube within a tube and runs the whole length of their bodies.
