How do you take care of a Saluki?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

When it comes to grooming and coat care, Salukis are a very low maintenance. They don't shed very much and tend not to have a strong 'dog smell' either. To remove dead fur and keep their coat in tip-top condition, you'll only need to brush your Saluki on a weekly basis.

Do Salukis make good pets?

Salukis can make excellent companions for older children, but they aren't recommended for homes with young children. They're tolerant, but young Salukis can be too active for children younger than 8 years of age, and their thin skin and knobby bones make them vulnerable to injury if children aren't careful.

What would you need for a pet Saluki?

Salukis need access to a large fenced area – fenced because these independent dogs are likely to take off and not come back. If there is a dog club in your area, get your Saluki involved in lure coursing (chasing a mechanized lure around a track or across an open field).

How often should you walk a Saluki?

Exercise requirements: Salukis need over 2 hours of exercise daily. Salukis do have a strong chase instinct, so be aware of this if they are around other pets at home and when out and about.

What food do Salukis eat?

Food/Diet. It is essential that the Saluki be fed a high-quality diet of dry food. Although many people feed their dogs only once per day, quite a few Saluki enthusiasts free feed their dogs. This means that they leave dry kibble available for the dog all day.
