How do you tell the difference between a Whippet and a greyhound?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

Both have long narrow heads that are wider between the ears. Their muzzles are long and their eyes are large and round or oval in shape. A Greyhound's ears are folded except when they're excited, when they tend to stand on end. A Whippet has rose-coloured ears that are smaller and finer in texture.

How are Whippets different from Greyhounds?

A full-grown Greyhound weighs 60-100 pounds, while a Whippet weighs less than half that. Whippets can reach a full weight of 25 to 40 pounds when they are fully grown. Though they may not seem so from a distance, the greyhound is an exceptionally large dog, while the Whippet is a small to medium size dog.

How can you tell a Whippet?

Check the eyes. Unlike some other breeds, Whippets have round or oval eyes rather than almond-shaped ones. The size of the eyes is a bit large, and they are dark in color, usually black or a darker brown shade, with the rims typically being entirely pigmented.

What's the difference between Whippet and Italian Greyhound?

The larger Whippet is a member of the Hound Group and the smaller Italian Greyhound (IG) is a member of the Toy Group. However, just like their larger cousin the Greyhound, the Whippet and the IG are both Sighthounds, so they share lithe and graceful physiques as well as a lightning-quick instinct for pursuit.
