How long do opened nuts last in pantry?
To avoid oxidisation of fats in your nuts, make sure you transfer them from their packaging to air-tight containers immediately after opening them. Most nuts will last for about three to six months, if stored in a proper way.
Do nuts really expire?
Yes, nuts are very fatty, and they will eventually go rancid— if this is the case, they will taste very poor. They can also dry out, or in more rare cases (especially if stored improperly) be infested with insects or molds.
Can you store nuts in the pantry?
Storing your nuts and seeds in airtight containers is the first step, but it's even more important to keep those babies cold. If you plan to use them in the immediate future, it's fine to store the airtight containers in a cool, dark spot in your pantry. But they'll only last at room temperature for a few months.
How long can nuts be stored?
If sealed correctly, nuts can maintain freshness for up to 3 months in this short term storage. For storage up to six months, store in the refrigerator and keep away from onions and other strong-smelling foods as nuts tend to take on the smell of things around them.
