Most treatments get to work rapidly, killing intestinal worms starting from around 2 to 6 hours after administering the de-wormer.


How long will I see worms after deworming?

It can take as little as two hours for the worms to start dying off. However, in most cases, the process starts about 12 hours after administering the dewormer. You may continue to see worms in your pup's poop for about a week. If they had a serious infestation, you may see worms for up to two weeks.

How do you know if dewormer is working?

Deworming products are considered effective if they reduce fecal egg counts (FEC) by at least 95%. Products with less than 95% effectiveness are considered to have resistance issues. Products with less than 60% effectiveness are considered to have severe resistance issues.

Is it normal for worms to come out alive after deworming?

You may be surprised to still see live worms in your dog's feces after deworming them, but this is normal. While this can be an unpleasant image, it's actually a good thing — it means the worms are no longer living inside your dog!

Does dewormer work the first time?

Because worms are so common in puppies, vets recommend de-worming them for the first time when they're 2 to 3 weeks old. Worms can pass from mother to baby before birth or soon after, through their milk. It will take more than one dose. The first round kills the worms that are there at the time.
