Malamutes need a minimum of two hours of heavy exercise every day. This can be spent running and walking so they can let off steam. As well as this they'll also need extra playtime, free time in the garden and training to help keep their brains active too.

As a large dog with a lot of energy, the Alaskan Malamute requires a great deal of exercise. The Kennel Club recommends over two hours of exercise a day, noting these are not dogs for lazy people.
Can Alaskan Malamutes be lazy?
When Alaskan Malamutes are bored they can appear lazy or disinterested. If your Alaskan Malamute isn't showing interest in their favourite game or toy, it means something's wrong. Similarly, if they're barking or whining, it means that they want some attention and are letting you know as best they can.
How do I exercise my Alaskan Malamute?
Chasing their favourite ball or toy will keep your Alaskan Malamute occupied for hours and, with any luck, they'll kick it around themselves for a while and give you a break. Or, take the toy with you on a walk and give your Alaskan Malamute an even longer run!
How long should you walk a Malamute puppy?
But puppies should not be run on a leash until they are over 6 months old. Young puppies under 6 months of age should be walked twice a day and allowed plenty of time outside to play off lead but no sustained jogging or running. We start walking our pups at 8 weeks gradually building up to one mile.
