How much food is too much for a dog?

Giant breed dogs usually need to consume more calories to maintain weight. But you don't want to overfeed at a single meal because this can increase the risk of GDV/bloat. For this reason, meals are spread out to two or three per day. Typically I do not recommend feeding more than 2.5–3 cups per feeding.

How many cups of food should you give a dog a day?

Assuming your dog has a typical activity level, toy breeds should have about ¼ cups to 1 cup, small breeds should have about 1 cup to 1 2/5 cup, medium breeds should have about 2 cups to 2 2/3 cups, and large breeds should have about 2 4/5 cups to 3 cups. -Senior dogs should be fed a little less than adult dogs.

Is 4 cups of dog food a day too much?

Toy Breeds (3-6 pounds): 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup per day. Small Breeds (10-20 pounds): 3/4 cup to 1 1/2 cups per day. Medium Breeds (30-50 pounds) 1 3/4 to 2 2/3 cups per day. Large Breeds: (60-100 pounds) 3 to 4 1/2 cups per day, plus 1/3 cup for every 10 pounds over 100 pounds.

How many cups a day should a medium dog eat?

Medium breed dogs from about thirty to fifty pounds typically need one-and-three-fourths cups to two-and-two-thirds cups of dog food each day. They need a little more wet or dry dog food than small breeds because of their larger size. Examples of medium breed dogs include collies and Australian shepherds.
