No, boiling water is NOT a chemical reaction, but it is a physical change. When water, H2 O, is in liquid form, it can be heated to a boil.

Why is boiling a chemical change?

In chemical processes (reactions) new substances appear, while in physical process, like boiling no new substance appears. Both liquid and gas is the same substance (water H2O).

Why is boiling a physical change?

During boiling water forms steam (water) and thus there is no new substance formation. The chemical composition and properties of the original substance (water) is not changed. Therefore, boiling of water is a physical change.
