Is dog sledding ethical?

Based on our experiences and research, we would say dog sledding isn't any worse than riding a horse. In fact, the dogs are probably treated better. If anybody ever asks us, “is dog sledding cruel”, we can strongly stand by our experience and say that we don't believe it is in the slightest.

Do sled dogs get hurt?

Countless dogs are injured. Dogs used in the Iditarod are forced to run up to 100 miles a day through biting winds, blinding snowstorms, subzero temperatures, and treacherous ice. Even with snow booties on some, the dogs' feet can become cut, bruised, and raw from the vast distances of frozen terrain that they cover.

Is dog sledding cultural?

Dog sledding originated in Indigenous communities in the Arctic, where they were an essential part of the culture and lifestyle. Until recently—and in some areas still today—dog sleds have been the main method of transportation during the winter.

All dogsledding in Norway is ethical. Kennels are inspected and have regular veterinary control.
