Is it too late to deworm my puppy?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

A puppy should be wormed as early as two weeks of age. By the time a puppy is old enough to go to a new, forever home (ideally 8 weeks of age, after weaning) it's vital to maintain a deworming program to ensure your pet stays healthy and comfortable.

How long can a puppy go without being dewormed?

Puppies should be wormed every two weeks until twelve weeks of age, then monthly until six months of age. Once they have reached six months of age, a puppy can transfer onto an 'adult' worming schedule. All adult dogs need to be wormed every three months for effective protection.

Is it ever too late to deworm my puppy?

It is recommended that you worm your dog once every 3 months, however puppies will require more frequent treatment until they are six months old. Dogs will not always show symptoms of having worms so it's often impossible to tell if they have them, sometimes until it's too late.

Is it too late to give my dog dewormer?

It is not too late for parasite control. Given his age and history of no dewormer it is recommended to take a fresh stool sample to your veterinarian. They will evaluate for what specific types of internal parasites he may have and get him started at least on a general dewormer.

What happens if a puppy hasn't been dewormed?

If your dog is vomiting or has a bloated stomach, he may not have been properly dewormed and could have a case of parasites. That adorable round puppy belly could actually signal a case of roundworms he inherited from his infected mother. Pups may show signs of infection as young as 2 weeks old.
