Overall the Husky and Malamute need very little grooming compared to other breeds, no trimming of hair is needed, just a regular brush to remove any dead hair. NEVER shave, strip or clip your Husky or Malamute close, unless required for medical reasons, or to tidy up the legs or belly of a longer-coated dog.
Do Malamutes need haircuts?
your dog will look nicer, smell better, and it will keep the shedding at a minimum if you do regular bathing and drying every 6-8 weeks. Show malamutes are groomed weekly and it has proven that the coats are in better conditioning, less shedding, and overall good health because of it.
How do you deal with Malamute hair?
For general brushing, a pin brush or slicker brush works well on a Malamute. However, when they shed their undercoat during spring and fall, an undercoat rake or deshedding tool should help you remove the dead undercoat fur.
