Should Poodles be shaved?

【Expert answer】
Any Q

Shaving poodles is definitely necessary. Poodles have very thick curly hair that, unlike dog breeds with typical fur, does not shed. When a poodle's hair falls out, due to its thick and curly texture, the hair quickly wraps itself around the surrounding sections of hair, eventually creating mats and tangles.

How often do Poodles need to be shaved?

Trims can be given as often as baths, about every four to eight weeks, depending on how long you'd like your Poodle's hair to grow.

What happens if you don't cut poodle hair?

Poodles have curly hair, and loose hairs can get caught within the hair as it grows. If not brushed and groomed properly, this can lead to dirty skin, ingrown hairs, and even infections in your dog. Avoid these health and skin issues by brushing your dog's hair every other day and taking them to the groomer regularly.

Do Poodles need their face shaved?

Poodles grow hair all over their body, including the face. Many poodle styles have the face shaved to show off the elegance of the poodle head. Shaving the face also gives an advantage for cleaning and proper hygiene. A shaved face eliminates issues with food or water being trapped in and around the eyes and the mouth.

What happens if you shave a poodle?

Even when a dog has a hair-type coat that can be cut and shaved without permanent damage, shaving does not keep them cooler, it can actually cause sunburn in the summer, overheating, and injury. A Dog's coat is natural to them. And its a vital (and cuddly!) part of the pets we love.
