Should I treat both dogs for worms?
While the same medication in dogs can treat both types, determining which type of roundworm your dog has is therefore important if he or she also shares their home with felines. Hookworms, tapeworms and whipworms can also be passed between dogs and cats.
Can dogs with one worm be together?
roundworms are contagious to other dogs but they cannot be passed from dog to dog just by being int he same room. However, if the dogs have defecated in the room and there are traces of the stool on the floor there is a chance that the worms can be passed from dog to dog.
Can dogs pass worms onto each other?
Intestinal parasites are contagious to other animals and humans. Because they primarily inhabit the GI tract, larvae, or eggs, are passed in the feces. The infective larvae then inhabit the soil around the feces, leaving other dogs, and children, vulnerable to accidental ingestion and subsequent infection.
Should I deworm my dog twice?
We advise regular worming of puppies from birth to 6 months of age. Puppies 6 months of age and adult dogs are advised to be routinely wormed three to four times a year. It is safest to discuss which wormer to use with your vet to ensure it is safe for your dog, its life stage and that the correct dose is given.
