【Expert answer】
Any Q

Hollow heart is an internal disorder where a 'lens' or 'star'-shaped cavity forms in the tuber. It appears to be caused by an abrupt change in tuber growth rate which usually occurs after a period of stress. Water, heat stress and associated calcium deficiency appear to have a role in the development of hollow heart. 19 окт. 2016 г.

Why is the inside of my potato hollow?

Hollow heart occurs because of uneven amounts of moisture during tuber development or a combination of other environmental factors. Hollow heart, sometimes called brown heart or sugar center, is found everywhere potatoes are grown and occurs when there is an abrupt change in growing conditions.

Can you eat hollow heart potatoes?

Hollow heart potatoes are still edible and safe to eat, as long as the splitting hasn't reached the surface, which can then invite rotting. If you find yourself with hollow heart potatoes, you can cut out the hollow piece and eat the good parts!

Can potatoes rot from the inside?

Fusarium dry rot causes internal light to dark brown or black dry rot of the potato tuber. The rot may develop at an injury site such as a bruise or cut. The pathogen penetrates the tuber, often rotting out the center.

What Does a ring inside a potato mean?

While slicing my potatoes, I noticed a brownish ring in the flesh all around the outside of the potatoes. This condition, called vascular discoloration, is similar to net necrosis. Dry growing conditions cause the vascular ring, which extends around the entire tuber. This condition is not harmful.
