Paragonimiasis is caused by infection with a flatworm. That's a parasitic worm also called a fluke or lung fluke because it commonly infects the lungs. Usually, infection comes after eating undercooked crab or crayfish that carry immature flukes. Once swallowed by a person, the worms mature and grow inside the body. 27 апр. 2021 г.


How do you treat lung parasites?

Lung fluke infections are treated with praziquantel, a drug used to eliminate flukes from the body (called an anthelmintic drug). An alternative is triclabendazole. If the brain is infected, corticosteroids may also be given. They help control the inflammation that develops when the drug kills the flukes.

What causes you to cough up worms?

Swallowed eggs first hatch in the intestine. The larvae then move through the bloodstream to your lungs. After maturing, the roundworms leave your lungs and travel to your throat. You'll either cough up or swallow the roundworms in your throat.

What is the main cause of worms?

Worms are mainly spread in small bits of poo from people with a worm infection. Some are caught from food. You can get infected by: touching objects or surfaces with worm eggs on them – if someone with worms does not wash their hands.

How do you know if you have parasites in your lungs?

Presentation. Most infections occur in children and most are asymptomatic. Patients may present with immunologically-mediated symptoms including cough, dyspnoea and wheeze which may present as asthma or bronchitis. Presenting signs may include hepatomegaly, splenomegaly and ocular lesions.
