The appearance of Anubis was seen as a man who has the head of a jackal like an animal. The head color was black, which represented him as the god of the dead. The full human form of Anubis could be very rarely seen but in the Temple of Rameses II at Abydos Anubis can be seen in a fully human form.
What was Anubis appearance?
Anubis was depicted in black, a color that symbolized regeneration, life, the soil of the Nile River, and the discoloration of the corpse after embalming. Anubis is associated with his brother Wepwawet, another Egyptian god portrayed with a dog's head or in canine form, but with grey or white fur.
What did Anubis look after?
He was associated with the funerary cult and the care of the dead, and his later role was as the “conductor of souls.” He was also reputed to be the inventor of embalming, an art he first employed on the corpse of Osiris.
