The borzoi is best described as a large greyhound robed in a long, silky coat. Like a typical greyhound, it has family traits of long, slender legs, relatively narrow body, deep chest, tucked abdomen, arched loin and long tail. His head is extraordinarily long and narrow.


Are Borzois and Russian wolfhounds the same?

As strong as it is swift, the Borzoi was bred for centuries to course fox, boar, hare and, famously, wolf – hence its moniker, the Russian Wolfhound.

Are Borzois bigger than greyhounds?

Borzois are considered a giant breed, standing at 26-32 inches tall and weighing 60-105 pounds. Greyhounds aren't far behind at 27-30 inches tall and 60-70 pounds. The thick double coat of the Borzoi comes in a range of colors. They can be black, white, brown, or a combination of these colors.

Are Borzois couch potatoes?

This sensitive breed needs companionship. Their beautiful coat also sheds a lot and requires some maintenance on your part. You'll get a great couch potato buddy with a Borzoi, but you'll still have to put in some effort to meet the breed's needs.

Do Borzois have hair or fur?

The males are at least 28 inches tall, and females at least 26 inches. Males average 75 to 105 pounds and females 60 to 85 pounds. Their coat is long and somewhat silky, either curly, wavy or straight. They have a thick ruff of curly hair around the neck.
