The wide range in styles is reflected in the range of acceptable heights: 23 to 28 inches for males, although most salukis today are nearer the top of the range. Weight can range from about 35 pounds for a small female up to 65 pounds for a large male (16 to 30 kilograms).


How tall is a Saluki?

Males can stand between 23 and 28 inches at the shoulder; females can be much shorter. They come in a many colors and patterns. Their large, oval-shaped eyes are warm and intelligent. Salukis are highly adaptable, able to live and work in any climate.

Are Saluki dogs rare?

The Saluki Club of America was founded in 1927, the same year the breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club. The first Saluki registered by the AKC was Jinniyat of Grevel in 1929. Today the Saluki is a rare treasure, ranking 116th among the 155 breeds and varieties recognized by the AKC.

Do Saluki dogs bark a lot?

Salukis don't, however, do much wrong – aside from chewing and digging. They are not excessive pullers, they don't bark a lot, and they are not a hyperactive breed. Salukis will benefit from obedience training at a young age. Use positive reinforcement like treats and praise.
