Once dead, a bird decomposes fairly quickly. Because they need to be as light as possible to fly, their bones are hollow, they carry very little fat, and they have air sacs distributed throughout their skeleton which aid respiration.
What happens after bird dies?
When a dead bird hits the ground, it is almost immediately invaded by small decomposers in the form of bacteria and insects. Vultures and coyotes might also take part in the feast, but the tiny organisms are usually the quickest and most efficient.
How do you bring a dead bird back to life?
Give five puffs of breath, followed by 10 compressions; check the bird for heartbeat and breathing. Next, give two breaths, 10 compressions, two breaths and 10 more compressions. Continue in this manner for a minute. If possible, have someone time this for you.
What should I do with a dead bird?
Tightly close the plastic bag(s) containing the bird or animal. Tie the ends together or use a twist-tie to seal it shut. Place the bag inside another clean plastic bag (if available) and then close it tightly, too. Dispose of dead birds or small animals with your usual household trash.
How does a bird look when it's dead?
The muscles in the legs and feet of dead birds will be stiff while birds that are just stunned will still have relaxed muscles in their feet and legs. Check the eyes. If you can see no blinking or movement in the bird's eyes, then it is probably dead. Dead birds will also have their eyes closed.
