Why is UConn mascot a Husky?
Jonathan the Husky is the mascot of the University of Connecticut. All of UConn's huskies are named Jonathan in honor of Jonathan Trumbull, the last colonial and first state Governor of Connecticut. There are two versions of Jonathan: the costumed version and the canine version.
Why did UConn change their logo?
The new logo comes out of a marketing partnership between the school's athletic department and Nike, which designed it at no cost to the school. It is part of a larger effort to replace disparate logos used by different Husky teams. The school says athletes and coaches had input into the design.
How many Jonathan Huskies are there?
There are two versions of Jonathan: the costumed version and the canine version. All but the first real husky mascot, a brown and white dog, had been solid white with one brown eye and one blue eye, until 2013 when UCONN officially changed their logo to a black and white Husky.
Who does Jonathan the Husky live with?
Our current husky, Jonathan the 14th, was born on October 5, 2013 at Husky Harbor in El Dorado, Arkansas. He began his duties in August of 2014 and lives with his furever family. Jonathan XIII and Jonathan XIV are sponsored by their veterinarian, Fenton River Veterinary Hospital in Tolland, CT.
