Currently, only one readily available insecticide is known to reduce and kill off earthworm populations. Sevin, a carbayl-based product, is intended for killing off grubs in a lawn but has been found to reduce earthworm populations as well when used at the recommended dosage amounts for grubs.
What kills worms in the soil?
Use a carbamate insecticide to kill the earthworms. Some carbamate insecticides include carbaryl (Sevin), bendiocarb (Turcam) and propoxure (Baygon). Use about as much insecticide to kill the earthworms as you would to kill grubs, which is generally 4 to 8 lb.
Can you treat the ground for worms?
Spread sodium borate (Borax) over sandy or clay areas of the yard to kill any remaining eggs or larvae. You will need to use about 10 pounds of sodium borate evenly over every 100 square feet of ground. Don't use the sodium borate on areas with plants or grass as it may harm the plants.
Is baking soda harmful to earthworms?
What's more, it is also known for killing out earthworms. Every teaspoon of this soda contains high amounts of sodium (1200+ mg). This high sodium content will end up killing earthworms and your pile will lose its true essence. That is why it is never a good idea to add this soda to your pile.
