Lurchers were traditionally bred in England to assist poachers in hunting rabbits and hares. Around the world they are kept as sporting dogs and family pets, or to compete in sports such as lure coursing and dog racing.

A Lurcher is a cross between a working dog and a Sighthound, bred to add intelligence to a fast dog.

What makes the best Lurcher?

An athletic build and acceleration are the hallmarks of a lurcher. A lurcher is a difficult companion to better for country people. Healthy, quick, kind and highly intelligent, if you take the time to train them they will make as good a peg dog as any retriever or spaniel.

What two breeds make a Lurcher?

Lurchers are usually a cross between a sighthound breed – such as Greyhound, Saluki or Whippet – and a Collie or Terrier. Because they're a mixed breed, no two Lurchers are the same – in looks or temperament.
